The International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT) as the Academic Partner

10 August 2010, Kuala Lumpur – A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed to further enhance research affiliation in the field of cybersecurity has been signed between the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT) and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The signing ceremony was held in conjunction with Annual General Meeting of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in Shangri-La, Putrajaya.
The MOU focuses on research and educational ground in the fraternity of cybersecurity. This initiative will help the local and international community to appropriately prepare and enhancing their state of readiness for protection against cyber threats.
IMPACT, being international and multilateral in nature, will provide a platform and further collaborate to strengthen this affiliation in promoting UUM’s Research and Training in the field of Cybersecurity. Thus, this teamwork is aligned towards IMPACT’s objective and working with esteemed universities like UUM to embark upon issues of cybersecurity which are not adequately addressed.
Besides focusing on the research and educational field, the MOU will see both organisations provide joint assistance for projects and programmes that will improve cybersecurity and developing potential solutions.
As such IMPACT will also make available its facilities, including the access to specialised ICT laboratories, equipments, resource centre and the necessary environments to encourage research in areas of cybersecurity. Besides that, this initiative will also see collaboration in various areas such as;
 support in the development of incident response capability,
 working with IMPACT on new cyber Initiatives as the organisation charts its future growth and development in these important areas,
 joint teaching programs, collaboration in the delivery of approved training programmes,
 development of joint and collaborative research activities and publications in the fields of transactional cybercrime and cyber threats prevention and investigation,
 participation in relevant organizational meetings, symposiums, seminars, workshop, conferences, study tours and academic meetings.
 UUM to offer PhD programmes under the Centre of Excellence for PhD Programs in cybersecurity located at IMPACT and that will encourage the expansion of PhD graduates in this field.
The MOU exchange was represented by Professor Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak Vice Chancellor Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and Mr. Mohamed Shihab, Advisor, International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT).
